Weather Report from The Antarctic!

As part of over ten projects every year within the scope of the National Antarctic Science Expeditions initiated in 2017 under the auspices of the President of the Republic of Turkey, Turkish scientists put their signatures under successful works.

Within the framework of a protocol signed in 2019 with Turkish State Meteorological Service, the first meteorological station to be established by Turkey in the Antarctic was shipped to the Continent with a great logistic operation. The data of the meteorological station, which was established and activated during the Third National Antarctic Science Expedition, was recorded to the memory of the hardware for one year. During the Fourth National Antarctic Science Expedition in 2020, the station was upgraded to allow data flow over satellite. The data transmitted to satellite is now recorded, processed and shared online by Turkish State Meteorological Service.

Turkish scientists are now able to get weather reports from the meteorological station before and during expeditions.

Also, Polar Research Institute made a contribution to a chapter of the book “Turkey's Meteorological Policies and Strategies from Past to Present” that was released in a few months ago. You can read Turkey’s studies in polar regions and the establishment of Turkey’s first meteorological station in the Antarctic broadly in the chapter “Turkey’s Scientific Expeditions and Meteorological Station Establishment in the Antarctic”.
