TURKISH POLAR DOCUMENTARY FILM ON TV

The premiere of the documentary film “Black Box of the Planet Earth: Antarctica”, which was shot during the 4th National Antarctic Science Expedition conducted under the auspices of the President of the Republic of Turkey, with the support and financing of the Ministry of Industry and Technology and under the coordination of TÜBİTAK MAM Polar Research Institute, was held on 23 September 2020 with the honoring and invitation of the First Lady Emine ERDOĞAN at the Presidential Complex.

TÜBİTAK MAM Polar Research Institute Director and the Expedition Coordinator Assoc. Prof. Burcu ÖZSOY gifted the First Lady Emine ERDOĞAN a basalt sample collected from volcanic rocks of Antarctica on which scientific studies were completed and relevant permissions were received, and the Director of the documentary Ms. Burcu CAMCIOĞLU gifted the camera lens that she used in the continent.

The 4th of the National Science Expeditions to Antarctica, which started first in 2017 under the auspices of the President of the Republic of Turkey, was conducted in 2020 with a team of 24 persons 2 of which were guests from foreign countries. Also, 2 Turkish scientists were sent out to other scientific bases as guest researchers. As a result of these expeditions, over 30 scientific publications were made as a contribution to the literature, and Turkish production documentaries started to give a chance to explain better the effects of scientific studies at the other end of the world to Turkey and to the world.

The first run of the documentary took place on TRT Belgesel (Documentary Channel) on 24 September 2020 and the second run is going to take place on TRT-1 Channel on 27 September 2020 at 17.45.
