We respectfully commemorate Professor Steffen.

Prof. Konrad Steffen, a leading name in polar sciences, lost his life in an accident during a fieldwork in Greenland. The Swiss scientist was known for his research on the impacts of climate change on the glaciers in the Arctic and Antarctic regions.

Steffen, born in 1952, completed his Ph.D.at Zurich Federal Institute of Technology in 1984. He served as a professor of climatology at the University of Colorado in 1990. Steffen, who died at the age of 68, was serving as the Director of Swiss Federal Institute of Forest, Snow and Landscape Research since 2012.

We mourn the death of the leading scientist who made great contributions to polar studies. We extend our condolences to the community of polar sciences, his friends and family members.
